Urban Africa Roundtable: Towards a shared policy approach for accelerating the sustainable urban infrastructure agenda

As a follow up to the first roundtable on Mainstreaming Sustainable Infrastructure Investment in Africa through cities in September, Alfred Herrhausen Gesellschaft and the African Center for Cities are now hosting a second workshop to continue the discussion towards a shared policy approach for accelerating the sustainable urban infrastructure agenda.

The second roundtable, taking place on 12 November, will focus on four infrastructure sector research reports, covering energy mobility ICT and the digital , and sanitation.This is based on the insight that in order to understand the financing challenges better, it is important to appreciate what is involved in transitioning these sectors away from current models to approaches that incorporate sustainability criteria. The sector reports aim to address the following questions:

• Status quo: how is this vital infrastructure currently provided in African cities?
• What are the key sustainability issues and trends in this sector
• How can we improve the sustainability of investments in each sector?

The purpose of the roundtable is to draw on the participants’ expertise to verify the analysis and explore what this means for a more coordinated approach across the policy ecosystem to advance a shared approach--rooted in African experiences--to accelerating transitions to sustainable urban infrastructure in African cities.

The roundtables are taking place in the context of Urban Dialogues.
