Thinking of Europe
December 6, 2022
We are happy to present the new workshop manuals of this year’s fellow cohort of the “Thinking of Europe” fellowship programme! In 2022 the Alfred Herrhausen Gesellschaft funded – in cooperation with the Schwarzkopf Stiftung – Junges Europa and the Understanding Europe Network - five young people from all over Europe and had the chance to develope their own workshop formats, addressing pupils on the topics of climate change, social justice, and digitalisation within Europe. Following the motto: Education from young people, for young people!
With innovative and creative approaches, the workshops encourage young people to critically engage with challenges of change in Europe and to become active themselves. Now the final workshop manuals are ready to download as open educational resources:
Part of this year’s cohort was Leonor Albuquerque Amaral from Portugal, who advocates passionately for more understanding on the topic of disability. In her workshop “Breaking down disability: Removing barriers” pupils learn more about stigmatizing conceptions of people with disabilities and how they can stand up for more justice for disabled persons.
The second in this year’s fellow cohort was Samira Brahimi from Italy. Her workshop „European Muslim women’s identiy – Unveiling new narratives” deals with stereotypical narratives on Muslim women and how we can develop new, less prejudiced perspectives on this diverse group.
Sefa Adzua from Austria worked on the social implications of climate change, with specific regard to minorities. Her workshop “Be part of the solution, not pollution – Europe’s responsibility to fight for climate justice” illustrates the severe consequences of climate change for structurally disadvantaged and marginalized people and what we can do about it.
The fourth fellow was Than Ngyuen Van from Germany. He worked on the topic of career planning and orientation of young people. In his workshop “Your job orientation in the time of climate change” pupils learn about large range of career opportunities within the field of sustainable and ecological transformation and how they find a fitting job for themselves.
The fifth fellow was Yelyzaveta (Lisa) Glybchenko. The native Ukrainian lives in Finland and does research on peace politics. In her workshop “Peace in Europe: Digital and virtual reality peacebuilding”, pupils explore playfully who they can contribute to peacebuilding and peacekeeping in Europe – an ever more important topic.
The fellows have worked on their workshops for a period of over six months. Hereby, they were supported by the Understanding Europe Network. On several occasions, the fellows could exchange with other young Europeans and test their workshop layouts.
To our fellows: It was a great pleasure to accompany your journey and see your work thrive. We wish you all the best for your future!
