TECHNICALLY OBSOLETE? JOURNALISM AND DEMOCRACY IN THE AGE OF AI
Recent breakthroughs in machine learning and the spread of AI applications to all parts of our society do not stop at the structures and processes of democracy. What are the effects on democratic decision-making and our civic conversation? How do news organisations and journalists have to adapt? And how can we harness the potential of AI while guarding ourselves against the risks it poses?
At the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium we want to discuss these questions in our Strategic Working Group "Technically obsolete? Journalism and democracy in the age of AI" on 14 September. Sven Gösmann, Editor-in-Chief of dpa, and Gerard de Melo, Professor at the Chair for Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems at the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering, will provide input into the topic. The Strategic Working Group will be moderated by Antonia Marx, Project Manager Alfred Herrhausen Society.
This year, the Alfred Herrhausen Gesellschaft is co-host and strategic partner of the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium. Under this year's title “Between Ambition and Disarray: The Future of Democracy”, the international media conference will address the challenges currently facing democracy in various strategic working groups and roundtables. You can find the whole programme here: https://www.m100potsdam.org/m100/m100-sanssouci-colloquium/agenda/
